Bolted

This piece observes the beauty of bolted vegetable plants. The dramatic, curious approach represents this cabbage in a fragile and vulnerable manner. I specifically embrace the unappealing vegetation, the straggly overgrown and the overlooked. This work is also associated with the growing awareness of the environment and the need for preservation - the story of the work done underground, the roots, highlighting the beauty and diversity in the undergrowth.

I take inspiration from Dutch 17th century still life paintings and examine these historic sources through a contemporary lens, pushing the boundaries of embroidery in pursuit of something new and unexpected.
